Let’s dive in!

Note: Theme parks and attractions frequently update their policies, ride availability, and reservation systems. Be sure to check official websites for the latest information before your visit.

Tips for Disney Parks

1. Buy Tickets and Make Park Reservations in Advance

You will need to reserve tickets in advance so be sure check purchase them through the Walt Disney World  website (or your preferred travel agency, if applicable).

2. Download the My Disney Experience app and familiarize yourself with the interface/park maps before arriving at the park!

The App will be your compass and digital guide during your time in the park. It has an interactive map of all the rides and estimated wait times as well as a directory of all food options, including restaurants you may want to make lunch and/or dinner reservations at.

3. Use Lightning Lane Strategically

Lightning Lane lets you skip standby lines for popular rides, but it sells out! It’s up to you when you want to buy it (either in advance of day of, depending on how busy you expect the park to be). You will have to pre-select which rides you want to use your Lightning Lane selections for. Prioritize Slinky Dog Dash, Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, Rise of the Resistance, and Avatar Flight of Passage.

4. Rope Drop for Major Rides

Try to get into the park as soon as it opens and head straight to high-demand rides. Example strategies:

  • Magic Kingdom: Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, Tiana’s Bayou Adventure (currently a virtual queue)

  • Hollywood Studios: Rise of the Resistance or Slinky Dog Dash.

  • EPCOT: Test Track or Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure (I believe Guardians of the Galaxy uses a virtual queue).

  • Animal Kingdom: Avatar Flight of Passage first, then Safari.

5. Mobile Order Your Food in Advance

Use the My Disney Experience app to mobile order meals, especially at popular spots like Cosmic Ray’s (MK), Docking Bay 7 (HS), and Satu’li Canteen (AK). Pick a time early to avoid peak-hour waits.

6. Park Hop if You’re Short on Time for Maximum Fun

If you have the Park Hopper option, start at the park with the biggest rides you want, then hop to another park after 2 PM when the crowds shift. EPCOT and Hollywood Studios are easy to hop between via the Skyliner.

7. Pack Smart
  • Disney allows you to bring your own food and non-alcoholic beverages into the park! Families often bring snacks, or even lunch, in a small cooler if they want to budget their spending.

  • For those who plan to splurge on every delicious opportunity, pack light with a small backpack or crossbody bag to get through security faster.

  • Bring a portable phone charger, ponchos, refillable water bottle (and cooling towels/fans if during May-September).

8. Don’t Sleep on the Freebies
  • Free ice water at quick-service restaurants (just ask!)

  • Celebration buttons (first visit, birthday, etc.) from Guest Services

  • Play Disney Parks app games for interactive experiences in lines

  • Kidcot Stations at EPCOT for free souvenirs for kids

9. Time Your Parade & Fireworks Viewing
  • Magic Kingdom: Stand in front of Casey’s Corner or near the Partners Statue for the best castle view during Happily Ever After.

  • Hollywood Studios: Fantasmic! is a must—recommendation during busy crowds is to get seats 45 minutes early.

  • EPCOT: Luminous: The Symphony of Us—best viewing spots are near the Japan or Italy pavilions.

10. Leave 10 Minutes Before (or After) Fireworks to Beat the Rush
  • The crowds flood Main Street, the Skyliner, and the buses after fireworks. Either leave before the finale or wait 20-30 minutes after to avoid the gridlock.

  • You have two options to get back to the parking lots - the monorail and the ferry. It’s personal preference but our family loved the ferry (~10 min ride)!

Tips for Universal Studios

1. Get Express Pass (If You Can Afford It)
  • If you can afford it, it lets you skip the regular lines for almost all rides.

  • No Express Pass? Hit:

    • Islands of Adventure: Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure → VelociCoaster → Spider-Man

    • Universal Studios: Escape from Gringotts → Rip Ride Rockit → Transformers

  • Note: Hagrid’s has no Express Pass and gets the longest wait times (get there as soon as the park opens or ride right before closing).

  • VelociCoaster is one of the best coasters in the world—single rider line tends to move fast!

2. Download the Universal App & Mobile Order Food
  • Wait times, showtimes, and mobile ordering all in one place.

  • Mobile order at Leaky Cauldron, Three Broomsticks, and Fast Food Boulevard to avoid food lines.

3. Use the Single Rider Line to Save Time
  • Rides like VelociCoaster, Hagrid’s, Revenge of the Mummy, Escape from Gringotts, and Men in Black all have Single Rider lines.

  • Perfect for skipping long waits if you don’t mind splitting up!

4. Park-to-Park Ticket for Hogwarts Express
  • If you want to ride Hogwarts Express, you must have a Park-to-Park ticket.

  • This train connects Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure with two different ride experiences each way.

5. Get Butterbeer (But Skip the Longest Lines)
  • Butterbeer is a must-try, but lines can be crazy at carts.

  • Instead, go inside The Hopping Pot or The Leaky Cauldron (Diagon Alley) or Three Broomsticks (Hogsmeade) for shorter waits.

6. Lockers Are Required for Many Rides (Bring a Small Bag!)
  • Hulk, VelociCoaster, and Rip Ride Rockit require you to store ALL items (even in zippered pockets).

  • Small lockers are free, but large ones cost money—bring a small crossbody bag or fanny pack to avoid issues.

7. Best Viewing for Nighttime Shows
  • Cinematic Celebration (Universal Studios) → Best spot is in the Central Lagoon viewing area near Central Park Crepes.

  • Nighttime Lights at Hogwarts Castle (Islands of Adventure) → View from Hogsmeade Bridge for the best angle.

8. Leave Right Before (or After) Park Close to Avoid the Rush
  • The CityWalk exit is a madhouse after closing.

  • Either leave 10-15 minutes before closing or shop in CityWalk for 30 minutes after to let crowds clear out.

Tips for Disney Springs
A must-visit for shopping, dining, and entertainment!

1. Go in the Evening for the Best Atmosphere
  • Disney Springs comes alive at night with live music, street performers, and a great vibe.

  • Avoid midday heat and go after your park day or on a non-park day.

2. Make Dining Reservations in Advance (Especially for Popular Spots)
  • Must-book table service restaurants:

  • Gideon’s serves half-pound cookies and incredible cold brew coffee.

  • The line gets long—join the virtual queue as soon as you arrive.

5. Grab a Drink at One of These Unique Bars
  • Jock Lindsey’s Hangar Bar – Indiana Jones-themed with fun cocktails.

  • Wine Bar George – Fantastic wine selection and small bites.

  • The Edison – Steampunk-themed lounge with live entertainment (21+ after 10 PM).

6. Try the Free Chocolate at Ghirardelli
  • Ghirardelli Soda Fountain gives out free chocolate samples at the entrance.

  • Their sundaes and milkshakes are also worth a stop.

7. Park Smart – Free Parking, but Be Strategic
  • Parking is free at Disney Springs (rare for Disney!), but garages fill up quickly.

  • Best option: Park in the Orange Garage for easiest access to the main area.

  • Visiting at night? Arrive before 6pm for better parking spots.

8. World of Disney = The Biggest Disney Store Ever
  • This is the largest Disney store in the world—great for souvenirs.

  • It is always crowded, in my experience, but you could try going early or later to avoid the biggest crowds.

9. Enjoy Free Live Entertainment
  • Disney Springs has free concerts, street performers, and DJs—especially in the evenings. Check out the events calendar for free and ticketed event options.

  • Check out Waterview Park or The Marketplace Stage for great live music.

10. Ride the Amphicar or Aerophile Balloon for a Unique Experience
  • Amphicar Tours (The Boathouse) – Ride in a vintage car that drives into the water! ($125 for a 20-minute ride).

  • Aerophile Balloon Ride – A tethered hot air balloon with stunning views of Disney World (best at sunset).

Tips for Kennedy Space Center

1. Buy Tickets in Advance & Arrive Early
  • Buy tickets online to skip the ticket booth line and head straight to security.

  • Arrive 30-60 minutes before opening (usually 9am) to maximize your day.

2. Do the Bus Tour First (Before It Fills Up!)
  • The Kennedy Space Center Bus Tour takes you to the Apollo/Saturn V Center.

  • This is a must-do! The buses get crowded later, so take the first available bus after entering.

3. Prioritize These Must-See Attractions
  • Apollo/Saturn V Center – Stand under a real Saturn V rocket.

  • Space Shuttle Atlantis – See Atlantis up close & try the Shuttle Launch Experience.

  • Gateway: The Deep Space Launch Complex – Explore NASA’s future missions.

  • Rocket Garden – Walk among historic rockets from NASA’s early days.

  • Heroes & Legends / Astronaut Hall of Fame – Learn about space pioneers.

4. Ride the Shuttle Launch Experience (Not as Intense as It Looks!)
  • This simulated space shuttle launch is a must-try!

  • It’s thrilling but smooth (not a roller coaster) and has a motion-free option if needed.

5. If There’s a Rocket Launch, Check the Schedule & Arrive Extra Early
  • KSC is the best place to watch live rocket launches.

  • Launch days are way busier—arrive 3+ hours early for a good viewing spot.

6. Eat at the Right Time & Place
  • Best quick meal: Orbit Cafe (good burgers & sandwiches).

  • Best experience: Dine With an Astronaut (requires reservations).

  • Avoid peak lunch hours (12-1pm) to save time.

7. Meet a Real Astronaut
  • Check the daily schedule for Astronaut Encounter, where you can meet and hear from a veteran astronaut.

  • Located in the Universe Theater (included with admission).

8. Wear Comfortable Shoes & Bring Sun Protection
  • There’s a lot of walking! Sneakers are best.

  • The Rocket Garden and outdoor areas have minimal shade—bring sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat.

9. Don’t Skip the Gift Shop (Best Space Souvenirs!)
  • The Space Shop has NASA gear, astronaut ice cream, and cool collectibles.

  • You can also buy flown-in-space memorabilia!

10. Stay Until Closing for a Less Crowded Experience
  • Most people leave after the bus tour, so the afternoon (3-5pm) is a great time for less crowded exhibits.
